From Spinning Wheel and Loom: Luxurious Handwoven Rug - Handspun and Handwoven.
In true Cottagecore fashion, I take the Softest curly cream-colored mohair (from Angora goats raised on organic pasture, untouched by any chemical process) , then handspin it on my vintage spinning wheel over a core of handspun Alpaca-Cheviot wool yarn. The loom is a vintage 36" four-harness floor loom, medium-size of the four in my studio.
The lamb and ewe pictured below, from a sheep ranch in Hotchkiss,Colorado, are from the flock that provided the North Country Cheviot wool for the warp.
The result is stunningly soft and durable yarn that is subsequently handwoven with a sturdy handspun alpaca/merino wool cord on a vintage four-harness wooden loom into a generously sized weaving for your wall, sofa, or floor.
The weaving derives from 'hygge" - the Danish concept of comfort, contentment and connection, translated into Colorado Rocky Mountain fibers - a cozy addition to your living room or bedroom.
Washable, durable. Very long-lived with a little care and attention.
58" x 30"
Update: These highly textured Rocky Mountain tapestries in natural colors have beautifully enhanced both rustic and urban homes and offices in Colorado and other regions of the country. Each is unique, custom designed for your individual taste -whether tiny home, mountain lodge or upscale architectural modern settings.
Today, in the midst of a horrifying Pandemic, the younger generation (and a Grandma or two) have designated these very tactile and appealing works as "Cottagecore" or "Grandmacore" - a contemporary expression of traditional values. Recently, Architectural Digest has documented this trend as "Vintage Maximalism" - often in brighter colors and handcrafted textures, following on the heels of widespread preference for neutral, minimalist decor.
