"The Protective Presence" - A visual and tactile reminder in time of Pandemic and beyond that we are not alone, but part of a larger creative cosmos where we are loved and cared for. As I worked to bring this artistic vision to life, I thought with love and gratitude of those physically present and those unseen who provide comfort and sustenance to my human doubt. I once listened to a meditation asking, "What if you were surrounded by legions of angels, but you just couldn't see them...?"
This large felted wool panel was selected for the foyer of the Grand Mesa Arts and Events Center and first displayed at the opening of my one-woman fiber arts gallery event. Size: 9 feet by 2 1/2 feet.
Since then has become a traveling exhibit - popular attraction at subsequent events, requested to be featured at my second gallery show at the Montrose Center for the Arts. Later the same year it was requested to be shown at the Aspen Saturday Market, the Western Colorado Center for the Arts Holiday Show and Sale in Grand Junction, the MARC Holiday Festival in Moab, and the opening of the Confluence Studios Gallery in Grand Junction.
"The Protective Presence" was displayed at Confluence Studios - Gallery show opening Friday, August 7-September 26, 2020 "Conditions for Change". 634 Main Street, Garden Level, Grand Junction, CO. 970-314-2584.
The fibers in my work are locally harvested from independent farms and ranches in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Much of it is from endangered or scarce breeds, such as Navajo Churro or Welsh Black Mountain sheep. Exotic fibers - Curly Mohair, Yak, Bison, Wolf, Alpaca, Llama are sustainably and organically nurtured. The raw fibers are hand-washed, never bleached and compatible with ecologically responsible practices.
Interested responses have included a number of inquiries and commissions for some similar and some very different works for homes and and offices in Colorado and other areas.
